A Co.ERASGA milestone dance production, OrienTik/Portrait marks the first time that Artistic Director Alvin Erasga Tolentino brings together an all Canadian Asian cast of performers to explore the fusion of Asian aesthetics through contemporary dance, taiko drum and adapted classical music.
“a piece to discover, created by an artist to be followed”
-La Capitale, Brussels
The show features the work of four renowned Canadian artists: dancers Alvin Erasga Tolentino performing with Andrea Nann from Toronto, Vancouver’s taiko percussionist Jordan Riley, and pianist Alison Nishihara. OrienTik/Portrait is an electric, dynamic and highly specialized juxtaposition of varying sounds and rhythms, coupled with Tolentino’s signature style of hybrid choreography performance.
OrienTik/Portrait was first created for The Dance Centre’s artist-in-residency program 2005 in Vancouver, and re-mounted in 2007 at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts in Burnaby. The work has captivated audiences in Vancouver, BC’s Sunshine Coast, Belgium, and France.
“an original and captivating creation by Co. ERASGA”
