OUTREACH
Giving
back to the community
Creative outreach plays a great role in Co.ERASGA's
mandate: transforming dance as an educational tool to reach audiences
and the different communities we share and serve.
At
home, across the country and internationally, Co.ERASGA's outreach promotes
cultural diversity through teaching, special workshops, dialogue and
advocacy.
Throughout
the year, Co.ERASGA supported a variety of programs:
Master
Classes:
Professional and non-professional dance technique classes under the
teaching and direction of Alvin Erasga Tolentino worldwide: Vancouver,
CADA BC; Salerno, Italy, Scuola Di Danza; Manila, Philippines, Ballet
Philippines at the Cultural Centre of the Philippines; and in Laon,
France, the Music and Dance Conservatoire.
Interprocess:
Special dance catalyst for professional and non-professional community
members delegated by invited specialized artists to stimulate and enhance
the art of dance. This program also supported our yearly dance apprenticeship
to the Company since 2000. Guest artists: Andrea Nann (Dancer), Peter
Chin (Choreographer and Teacher) Katherine Duncanson (Voice Specialist)
and Anita Guerin (International Agent).
Studio
Process:
Year-round open public studios both at home and abroad are initiated
to see current developing work in progress and to facilitate public
dialogue and feedback held 3 to 4 times a year.
Youth
and Senior Outreach:
The Company offers an ongoing dance experience for youth and seniors
where the expression of dance is shared for fun. Basic learning partners
with public schools, diverse centre community groups and senior residences
at home and abroad. Participant groups: Kalayaan Centre, Bungkos Foundation,
Multi-Cultural Helping House Society in Vancouver, Shadbolt Centre for
the Arts, Mt. Pleasant Youth group.
