The Forsythe System and Technique

An open call to dancers and actors

 

Based on the improvisation method of William Forsythe nine points that is rooted from the Laban cubes, the body in space will be restructured, defined and anatomically described. The workshop explores and challenges the consciences of the different ways of moving the body in space. Participants explore the unique nine points system guided by structure and clarity versus improvisations, aiming for awareness and understanding of the body’s movement capacity and spatial relations.

Rafaële Giovanola is a Swiss dance artist based in Bonn, Germany.
Born in Baltimore, USA she studied under the renowned school of Marika Besobrasova in Monte Carlo. Engaged as a principal dancer under the direction of Egon Madsen for the Frankfurt Ballet, she danced the classical and modern repertoires of choreographers like Jiri Kylian, Uwe Scholz and William Forsythe. Under Forsythe direction, she stayed with the Frankfurt Ballet for eight years, participating in all his important productions and working with guest-choreographers Daniel Larrieu, Stephen Petronio and Christoph Nel. Rafaële Giovanola was also a member of Pavel Mikuláštik‘s company since 1990. In 2000, Giovanolla founded COCOONDANCE together with Rainald Endraß and is currently an instrumental dance company in the North Rhine Westphalia. Cocoondance is the resident company of the Bonn Theater in Ballsaal hosting two dance festivals, the annual international solo festival and the biennale Into the Fields. In 2010 Giovanolla was awarded the Culture Prize by the Canton of Valais (Switzerland). With extensive teachings across Europe, Giovanolla is a regular guest at the Opera Bonn at the Städtischen Bühnen Freiburg in Breisgau, the Tanzhaus NRW in Düsseldorf, the Brotfabrik Bonn, the Theater in St Gallen (CH) and the Staatstheater Nürnberg. 

Co.ERASGA's Exchanges series offers training opportunities and dialogue between international artists and the Vancouver dance community, offering opportunity for creative exchange, discussion and unique training experiences that both strengthen and broaden the practice of professional contemporary dance in our local community.
