Co.ERASGA is pleased to announce the world premiere of EXpose, presented by The Dance Centre’s Global Dance Connections Series, running April 14 – 16, 2011. A powerful new full-length duet exploring sexuality, gender and identity, EXpose brings together two exceptional male solo artists: Vancouver’s own Alvin Erasga Tolentino, Artistic Director of Co. ERASGA, whose sophisticated works have toured around the world; and Complot’s Martin Inthamoussú, a driving force in Uruguay’s contemporary dance scene, whose passionate works grapple with provocative socio-political ideas. These two charismatic performers seek to expose the complexity of the personal and public territories within the gay psyche, creating a spellbinding theatrical and physical dialogue featuring an original score by Marc Stewart, video production by Eric Miguel and lighting design by Phil Birkby.

EXpose is a personal, intimate duet journeying personal paths, sharing voices and peeling the layers of past and present, exposing the complexity, vulnerability, acceptance and inspiration of being gay. "Today gay people suffer dissonant confrontations at home, in schools and society in general that have triggered violence, hate, and death", states Tolentino, "EXpose is our attempt to question, express and celebrate the experience of gay life - to make ourselves visible and to confront fear using dance".

Filipino/Canadian choreographer Alvin Erasga Tolentino is one of the most active Asian contemporary dance artists in Canada and his work continues to provoke, fascinate and bring a fresh voice to the national and international dance scene. Following training with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, at York University and at the SUNY Purchase and Limon Institute, Tolentino has contributed to Vancouver's cultural communities for over 20 years both as an interpreter for companies such as EDAM, Lola Dance, Mascall Dance, Kinesis Dance, Kokoro Dance and Karen Jamieson Dance companies, and as an acclaimed choreographer and founder of Co.ERASGA Dance, work for which he received the 2010 Vancouver Mayor’s Arts Award in Dance. Exploring issues of gender, identity, ethnicity and cross-cultural dialogue, his choreography in works such as SOLA, BATO/stone, MINORI, VOLT, FIELD, SHE SAID, OrienTik/Portrait, BODYGlass, (with Peter Chin), PARADIS/PARADISE, ADAMEVE and 2010's Shadow Machine, as well as his award-winning explorations of dance on film, have made him an ambassador for dance in Canada, with his work finding appreciative audiences nationally and across four continents.  www.companyerasgadance.ca
