Music Meets Dance, Live in Strathcona

Vancouver, BC – June 25, 2010

Co.ERASGA Dance is pleased to announce Music Meets Dance, Live in Strathcona, a meeting of two international dance artists in this live improvisation featuring Vancouver’s critically acclaimed Alvin Erasga Tolentino, and Martin Inthamoussú of Germany/Uruguay accompanied by the wild and eccentric ion Zoo music ensemble with guest Jared Burrows.

Presented in partnership with the 2010 Dancing on the Edge Festival, Music Meets Dance, Live in Strathcona, promises one of a kind, never repeated and always engaging performances.

Saturday, July 17th, 2010 @ 1:00pm, 5:00pm and 9:00pm
Sunday, July 18th, 2010 @ 2:00pm and 6:00pm

About Co.ERASGA
Founded by choreographer and dancer Alvin Erasga Tolentino in 2000, Co.ERASGA has a distinguished international reputation of a singular vision of hybrid dance that integrates other forms of art and multimedia.

Tolentino has explored the realm of gender, identity and ethnicity facing modernization. He also ventured into the inherent spirituality of the human experience revealed in the act of performance creation. Working regularly with artists from different cultures, Alvin Tolentino pays homage to his Asian nationality that is diverse in culture creating a bridge between the identities of Western Canadians and the rest of the world.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, Co.ERASGA has created critically acclaimed contemporary dance productions: SOLA, BATO/Stone, MINORI, Volt, She Said, Field, BODYGlass, PARADISE/Paradis, and most recently ADAMEVE/Man-Woman.

About Martin Inthamoussú

Martin Inthamoussú is a dynamic force in the renovation of Uruguayan contemporary Dance. The Artistic Director of Complot, he is renowned for provocative socio-political dance explorations. For Inthamoussú, “choreographic creation is a reflection on a human theme - a conscious and visceral synthesis.” He is a passionate artist whose dynamism is also felt across Europe working in the Netherlands, Germany and Spain.

About ion Zoo

Since it’s inception in 2001, ion Zoo has been building a steady local following for its intelligent and eccentric brand of free improvisation. The group draws inspiration from a wide range of musical influences including bebop, noise, baroque aria, contemporary classical and Weimar cabaret to create an aural feast of haunting melodies, lush atmospheric textures, narrative fragments and spontaneous chamber music. Founded by vocalist Carol Sawyer and multi-instrumentalist Steve Bagnell, the group is rounded out by veteran bass player Clyde Reed and pianist Lisa Miller. The group’s first CD, ion Zoo set free at the Cellar, is the premiere imprint of the NOW Orchestra records label, distributed by Cellar Live records. In 2009 they released their second CD, Venus Looks Good, on their own openform audio label.

About Jared Burrows

Guitarist and composer, Jared Burrows is a relentlessly creative instigator and organizer on the Vancouver scene. He leads his own trio and quartet, co-leads the East Van Jazz Orchestra and performs with Koan, Colin MacDonald Pocket Orchestra, Curtis Andrews Offering, and various ad-hoc free-improv groups.    He teaches in the Jazz Studies Department at Capilano University as well as at Douglas College and SFU's School for Contemporary Arts.  Dr. Burrows holds a M.Mus from the University of Oregon and a Ph.D. in Arts Education from Simon Fraser University. He is the artistic director of the South Delta Jazz Workshop and produces several concert series in the Vancouver area.
