NOT JUST DANCE Symposium
NOT JUST DANCE on November 25-26, 2023 in Vancouver is presented by Co.ERASGA, Raven Spirit Dance and The Dance Centre.
The second edition of the Symposium NOT JUST DANCE will take place in Vancouver situated on occupied and unceded ancestral, traditional territories of the Coast Salish people of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) andsəl̓ílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
Created by Canada's and Montreal's iconic dance artist, Zab Maboungou/Compagnie Danse Nyata Nyata.
In the spirit, the NOT JUST DANCE symposium is an initiative aimed at generating a broader understanding of the contexts and issues encompassed within the realities of political and aesthetic cultures, an initiative that we hope can be extended to various region of the world, with the collaboration of various local artists and communities; in other words, that we hope it will be an “itinerant” symposium.
INTENTION
The NOT JUST DANCE symposium is for artists, thinkers, critics, observers, and amateurs for whom the art of dance remains an art of future centuries, whose true concerns, messengers of meaning, are at the heart of life, lived and to be lived.
The NOT JUST DANCE symposium aims to open perspective on a new dynamic for thinking up both the aesthetic and intellectual challenges represented by the art of dance inherited from and inspired by rhythm and cultural traditions of dance and music.
For this symposium, the art of dance will be a host in its own image: at once free and inviting, engaging, and seeing, moving from gesture to word and creating in situ, opportunity and reflection, dialogue, and an encounter, halfway between a history to be revisited and a future to be invented.
We welcome Zab Maboungou/Compagnie Danse Nyata Nyata in Vancouver, BC for the November 25-26, 2023 The NOT JUST DANCE symposium through the support of tri-organizing partners of Co.ERASGA, Raven Spirit Dance and The Dance Centre.
We welcome all the participating artists and our community audiences in this gathering.
